SUMMONER’S ALLIANCE
League of Legends basics

Learn the map before you rush the match.

A short, original starting point for your first games on Summoner's Rift.

What you are trying to do

League of Legends is a team game. On Summoner's Rift, two teams try to reach and destroy the other team's Nexus, the core structure in its base. The Nexus—not a personal score—is the match objective.

You control a champion, one character on your team. A lane is one of the routes from your base toward the enemy base. The three lanes are top, middle, and bottom; the space between them is the jungle. A team also commonly uses five positions: top, jungle, mid, bot, and support.

These positions have usual jobs, not fixed rules. Top and mid commonly begin alone in their lanes. Bot and support commonly begin together in bottom lane, where support helps their bot-lane teammate. The jungler moves between lanes and works around the neutral monsters in the jungle. Start with the role the game assigns, then learn its details one step at a time.

Use a simple first-match plan

  1. Follow your assigned position or the game's recommendation.
  2. If your role starts in a lane, head to its usual lane and look at the map often. If you are the jungler, begin between lanes instead.
  3. In a lane, let your allied minions move ahead before you take risks near enemy defenses.
  4. When you need to reset safely, use recall to return to your base, recover, and consider your next purchase.

You do not need to win every early trade to have a useful match. A safer choice that keeps you present for your team can be the better next step.

Meet minions before chasing fights

Both teams have minions, smaller units that travel down a lane. Your team's minions move alongside you; enemy minions are the ones you can defeat. Landing the final hit on an enemy minion is alast hit. It gives you gold, which you can use to buy items. It is a practical early skill because it asks you to watch timing, spacing, and nearby opponents at once.

Try this original practice goal: for one short stretch of lane, ignore the urge to force a fight. Watch one enemy minion's health, take one calm last hit when it is safe, then look back at the map. Repeat without treating a missed last hit as a failure.

See enough to make a better choice

Vision means the information your team can see on the map. If an opponent is not visible, treat their location as unknown—not as proof that they are far away. Share useful information with your team, and be careful near unobserved parts of the map.

Collaboration can stay simple: notice where teammates are, make a clear signal when you have useful information, and avoid turning one uncertain moment into a solo rescue mission. A coordinated retreat can protect the next opportunity to play together.

After this match

Review one small moment: where did you lose track of the map, recall too late, or take a last hit calmly? Pick only one of those skills for the next game. The next planned lessons are farm, lane awareness, and vision; they are an editorial sequence, not additional pages yet.
